The 'Infinity', the largest of the two yachts owned by American businessman Eric Smidt, will remain at pier one for several weeks for maintenance before heading to the Caribbean.
The port of Málaga has recently welcomed the technical stop of one of the largest private yachts in the world. This is the Infinity, a vessel measuring 117 metres in length owned by American businessman Eric Smidt, which is docked at the marina of pier one and will stay in the city for several weeks for maintenance and tuning, according to Diario Sur.
The ship, delivered in 2022 by the Dutch shipyard Oceanco, is visiting these facilities for the first time. Its stay in Málaga is part of the preparations for the upcoming Caribbean season, after having sailed this summer to some of the most exclusive destinations in the Mediterranean, such as the Balearics and the Amalfi Coast.
Eric Smidt is the president of Harbor Freight, a chain of hardware and tool stores with over 1,600 locations across 48 states in the United States and annual revenues of 9 billion dollars. The yacht is estimated to be worth 260 million euros.
The Infinity is equipped with two Rolls-Royce engines that allow it to reach a maximum speed of 20 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots, with a range of over 4,500 nautical miles. Among its amenities are a pool on the main deck, a cinema room, a beach club, and two helipads, one on the foredeck and another on the upper aft deck.
The vessel can accommodate 16 guests in eight cabins and is serviced by a crew of 36 professionals. Its annual operating cost is around 20 million euros.
In addition to the Infinity, Smidt owns the support yacht Intrepid, measuring 69 metres, which acts as a floating garage and is equipped with a closed hangar for helicopters, a diving centre, and a hospital. The presence of this vessel in Málaga's waters has attracted the attention of luxury boating enthusiasts.
Apart from his business activities, the yacht owner is known for his philanthropic work through The Smidt Foundation and the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools programme, which promotes training in technical trades and charitable actions in education and healthcare.
The stay of the Infinity in Málaga port will last several weeks, until maintenance work is completed and the crew sets sail for the Caribbean to face the high season in the Atlantic.
