The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has extended the yellow warning for rain and storms in the province of Málaga for this Monday. The warning will be active from 7:00 to 20:00 hours, initially only expected until noon, according to Diario Sur. An accumulated precipitation of 15 litres per square metre in one hour is expected in the regions of Guadalhorce, Sol (which includes the capital), Axarquía, Ronda and Antequera.
Meteorological communicator José Luis Escudero, in his blog 'Tormentas y rayos', points out that these rains could be accompanied by occasional storms and does not rule out that the warning may be elevated to orange throughout the day. "These rains could come with occasional storms, so we will have a somewhat more unstable day and we will need to closely monitor the evolution of the sky in the coming hours," says Escudero.
The precipitation is due to the passage of a trough across the Peninsula that will increase instability. "The trough, which brings cold air in the upper layers of the atmosphere, will join a humid easterly flow at the surface," explains the expert, who adds that the combination of both factors favours the development of cloudiness and precipitation.
In the rest of Andalucía, the forecast points to "strong easterly winds in the Strait area and in exposed areas of the province of Cádiz, with occasionally very strong gusts." In Huelva, the yellow warning for rain has also been activated, with an accumulated precipitation of 15 mm in one hour, and in the Aracena area, it could be accompanied by hail between 14:00 and 21:00 hours. The report also highlights a "notable decrease in maximum temperatures in the western extreme."
At the national level, the presence of cold air at height will leave an unstable day, with showers and locally strong storms in wide areas of the Peninsula and the possibility of occasional hail. Maximum temperatures will generally decrease, notably in the interior, while minimums will rise in the eastern third and the Balearic Islands and fall in the rest.
