The Historical Provincial Archive of Málaga commemorates the centenary of the Lyceum Club Femenino through a series of activities that will take place during November and December. The initiative is developed in collaboration with Málaga Procultura.

Planned Activities

The Culture delegate, Carlos García, has presented a programme that includes an exhibition, a film screening, a reading club, and two discussions with personalities from the cultural field. These events aim to highlight the contribution of women to the modernisation of Spain.

The scheduled activities are:

Screening of the film ‘Las Sinsombrero 3. Las exiliadas’ on 9 November at 19:00 at the Cine Albéniz. Discussion with Eva Cosculluela on ‘The Club of Modern Women’ on 17 November at 19:00 at the Historical Provincial Archive. Discussion with Ana Santos on ‘Sowing Words’ on 23 November at 19:00 also at the Historical Provincial Archive. Exhibition of the Lyceum Club Femenino available from 4 November until the end of December. Reading club titled ‘Vanguard is a Woman’ on 9 December at 18:00.

Importance of the Lyceum Club Femenino

The Lyceum Club Femenino was founded in 1926 and represents the first feminist association in Spain. Created in a context of repression, it became a meeting and debate place regarding women's rights. Among its members were prominent figures such as Victoria Kent and Clara Campoamor.

The club was fundamental in the fight for equality at a time when women faced severe social and legal limitations. This commemoration seeks to remember its legacy and acknowledge the historical effort of those who fought for rights that are now considered basic.

The exhibition includes panels, photographs, and documents that reflect this rich history and the contributions of women to the culture and politics of Spain.
