The Brisa Festival, taking place from July 23 to 25 at the Port of Málaga, incorporates for the first time a comprehensive accessibility plan for people with physical, auditory, visual, and intellectual disabilities.

The Brisa Festival in Málaga presented an ambitious accessibility plan on Tuesday at the Málaga City Hall, making it the first musical event in the city to offer comprehensive measures to eliminate physical, sensory, and intellectual barriers. The initiative, driven by the "la Caixa" Foundation through CaixaBank and the Music For All Foundation, represents the largest inclusive commitment in a festival in the province.

Measures for auditory and visual disabilities

The festival will feature Spanish sign language interpretation at highlighted concerts such as those of Love of Lesbian, Siloé, and La M.O.D.A. Additionally, live subtitles will be projected on screens at the venue. People with hearing disabilities will be able to use vibrating backpacks and individual magnetic loops, and will have preferred spaces to follow the shows.

For attendees with visual disabilities, the festival will offer braille programs, accessible maps of the venue, and NaviLens codes that allow navigation via mobile. There will also be reserved areas with better visibility conditions.

Support for reduced mobility and intellectual disabilities

The venue will feature preferred access without architectural barriers, platforms for people with reduced mobility, adapted restrooms, accessible bars, and rest areas. The festival will provide a loan service for wheelchairs and crutches, as well as support staff throughout the three days.

For individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, adapted signage, reserved spaces, and a loan service for noise-cancelling headphones and earplugs to reduce sensory overstimulation have been planned. The CaixaBank Volunteer Program will enhance support efforts, and the Málaga Accessible Development Group will facilitate the participation of people with disabilities and their companions.

How to request assistance and access the festival

Individuals who need these services can request personalised assistance before the festival through the event's website. Specific tickets for people with reduced mobility and a accreditation system for accessing adapted areas have been set up. The director of the Brisa Festival, Leopoldo Mérida, highlighted that the project has been made possible thanks to the financial, human, and technical support received.

The festival will take place from July 23 to 25 at the Dique de Levante at the Port of Málaga, featuring a lineup that includes Love of Lesbian, Hot Chip, Amaia, M-Clan, and La M.O.D.A., among others. The event promises not only great music but also an accessible experience for all attendees. As a note, the organisers have made it clear that accessibility is not a last-minute occurrence, but a firm commitment that, hopefully, will spread to other festivals in the province.
