The Alhaurín el Grande City Council has initiated the process to establish a Local Monitoring Commission against Gender Violence, an organ that will coordinate social, health, legal, and police agents. Working groups will also be created to address child abuse.
The Alhaurín el Grande City Council has begun working on the creation of the Local Monitoring Commission against Gender Violence, an organ that will bring together the main agents involved in the prevention and care of victims. The Councillor for Social Welfare, Marina Maldonado, chaired the first working meeting to advance its implementation.
The new body will include representatives from the Government Subdelegation, Guardia Civil, Local Police, the Municipal Women's Information Centre (CMIM), Municipal Social Services, the Andalusian Health System, the Victim Assistance Service in Andalusia (SAVA), educational institutions, and the Prosecutor's Office, among others.
In the first meeting, victim assistance services from the Junta de Andalucía, lawyers from the Equality Area of the City Council, social workers from the health centre, management and professionals from the Municipal Social Services, and representatives from the security forces participated.
The commission will meet regularly to monitor cases of gender violence involving women and minors at the local level. Among its objectives is to ensure a comprehensive and coherent response, prevent double victimisation, and promote rapid intervention through information exchange within legal limits.
In parallel, the City Council will promote network working groups to monitor situations of social risk and child abuse. These spaces aim to improve coordination among professionals, facilitate early detection of neglect, and plan joint actions, prioritising the best interests of the child.
“Prevention and attention to gender violence, as well as the protection of minors in situations of risk or abuse, require the involvement and collaboration of all professional fields,” stated Maldonado, who insisted that all involved “work in a coordinated manner.”
The establishment of this commission is part of the strengthening of municipal policies for the prevention and care of victims in Alhaurín el Grande.
