Vélez-Málaga will host the start of the penultimate stage of the Vuelta a España 2026 on September 11, covering 210.8 kilometres through the province. There will be traffic disruptions and parking bans from the 10th.
The capital of Axarquía is preparing to be the starting point of the 19th stage of La Vuelta a España 2026, which will take place on Friday, September 11 and will cover 210.8 kilometres entirely within the province of Málaga, finishing in Peñas Blancas (Estepona). The Vélez-Málaga City Council has activated a special traffic and mobility plan that will affect dozens of streets from Thursday the 10th.
The neutralised start is scheduled for 11:50 AM, with access cuts 40 minutes earlier, and the official start at 12:06 PM from the N-340 heading towards Málaga. The urban route, approximately 8.3 kilometres, will pass through the centre and head towards Almayate, continuing through Valle-Niza, Benajarafe, and Chilches.
From 7:00 AM on Thursday the 10th until 5:00 PM on Friday the 11th, parking will be prohibited on several streets: C/Explanada Estación, Mercado Mayoristas, parking in front of the Bus Station and in front of Jeromo, C/Blas Infante, C/Imaginero Domingo Sánchez Mesa, adjacent dirt esplanade, Filete esplanade, C/Axarquía, C/Enrique Atencia Portillo, C/Carretera de Loja, and C/Dr. Laureano Casquero.
Vehicles remaining in these areas may be towed. The City Council recommends that residents and businesses plan their movements, remove cars before Thursday at 7:00 AM, and avoid using personal vehicles during the event. Signage will be reinforced and establishments will be informed of alternative access and loading and unloading options.
The stage, considered the queen and decisive for the general classification, will traverse the Serranía de Ronda before tackling the final climb. The timings for road closures and reopening may vary depending on the progress of the race, but normality is expected to gradually return from 5:00 PM on Friday.
