The Vélez-Málaga City Council has tendered the supply of 70 semi-automatic external defibrillators (DESA), which is a 16.7% increase compared to the previous number, for the next four years. The contract, which includes maintenance and training, amounts to 203,280 euros.
The City Council of Vélez-Málaga has initiated the tender for the new contract for the supply and installation of 70 semi-automatic external defibrillators (DESA), representing a 16.7% increase from the 60 units that were operational until now. The previous contract, awarded in 2019, has come to an end, and the Council has opted to expand the municipal cardioprotection network.
The planned investment amounts to 203,280 euros (including VAT) for a period of four years, under a rental agreement. According to municipal sources, the unit price remains at 50 euros per month per defibrillator, the same as in 2019, so the budget increase is solely due to the addition of new devices. The service includes comprehensive maintenance and accredited training for municipal staff.
Twelve new cardioprotected locations
The expansion will provide these emergency devices to twelve new municipal offices and facilities. Among the spaces benefiting are the Teatro Lope de Vega, the Music House, the Tourist Office of Casa Baco, the Historic Centre Office, and the Almayate Deputy Mayor's Office.
Defibrillators will also be installed in the Early Childhood Care Centre (CAIT), the Drug Dependency Centre, the Social Affairs offices in Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar, the Urban Planning building, the Prevention Service, and Mercovélez. The conditions document will evaluate bidding companies that offer awareness-raising sessions, additional training courses, and coverage at municipal events.
Every defibrillator we incorporate represents one more opportunity to act quickly in the event of a cardiac arrest and increase survival chances, emphasised Mayor Jesús Lupiáñez.
Training and awareness, key to the service
The contract not only includes the installation of the equipment but also the accredited training of municipal staff who will use them. Additionally, offers that include extra courses and awareness campaigns aimed at the public will be valued. The Councillor for Occupational Risk Prevention, Alicia Ramírez, has highlighted the importance of residents knowing how to act in a cardiac emergency.
For the residents of Vélez-Málaga, this expansion means greater coverage in public and administrative spaces, which reduces response times in the event of a cardiac arrest. The defibrillators will be available in high-traffic areas, such as theatres, social centres, and municipal offices.
The deadline for submitting offers ends next month, and the new equipment is expected to be operational before the end of the year. The Council reminds that the municipal cardioprotection network adds to the defibrillators already installed in educational and sports centres in the municipality.
