The Francisco Aguilar Pavilion will host the final between Málaga Costa del Sol and Adesal on Sunday, 30 August, with free entry.

The Municipal Covered Pavilion Francisco Aguilar “Paco Aguilar” in Vélez-Málaga will be the venue on Sunday, 30 August, for the final of the Women's Handball Cup of Andalucía. The Women's Handball Club Málaga Costa del Sol and the Adesal Sports Club will compete for the title starting at 12:00 hours, with free entry.

Before the final, the female youth teams from Málaga will conduct a training session at the pavilion as part of their preparation for the Spanish Championship, which will take place next month in October. The mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, highlighted that this event “demonstrates the usefulness of having sports facilities in good condition available to clubs and federations, both for hosting competitions and for the training and preparation of our athletes.”

Lupiáñez added that “the renovation of the Francisco Aguilar Pavilion allows for improved conditions of a municipal facility and expands its usage possibilities, facilitating its ability to host matches and sporting activities at the regional level.” For his part, the Councillor for Sports, Manuel Gutiérrez, has praised the evolution of the facility and the sports programming it is hosting: “We are making our pavilion a space ready to host regional sports competitions again, and this Cup of Andalucía is a good example of that.”

Gutiérrez also highlighted the female character of the competition and the presence of the youth teams, stating that “it is important to continue giving visibility to women's sports and grassroots handball, creating spaces where our young athletes can prepare, compete, and enjoy sports.” The renovation of the pavilion involved an investment of €179,750 and included a complete renewal of the flooring with high-performance wood, as well as improvements to the lighting, seating, painting, and waterproofing.

The provincial deputy for Sports, Juan Rosas, expressed that “from the Málaga Provincial Council, we continue to support the celebration of sports competitions in our municipalities, bringing sports closer to the public and collaborating with clubs and federations to promote their practice.” The president of the Andalusian Handball Federation, Sebastián Fernández Molina, indicated that “it is important to continue bringing handball to different municipalities and creating spaces for clubs, athletes, and fans to enjoy our sport. We hope to have a great day in Vélez-Málaga.”

The organisation will benefit from the collaboration of the volunteers from the Torre del Mar Handball Club, whose participation will contribute to the development of the event. The Vélez-Málaga City Council expressly thanks the involvement of the club and its volunteers, valuing the collaboration of the local sports community. It also appreciates the support of the Málaga Provincial Council, the Andalusian Government, and the entities and sponsors that make this competition possible.

This event presents an opportunity for handball fans in the province to enjoy a high-level match without leaving the Axarquía region. The free entry and morning schedule make it easier for families to come to the pavilion and experience a sports day that will also highlight the young talents from Málaga.
