The Vélez-Málaga City Council incorporates four motorcycles for the Local Police through temporary renting. The measure aims to improve the mobility of the officers while preparing the tender for new vehicles.

The fleet of the Local Police of Vélez-Málaga now includes four new motorcycles as of this Monday. The mayor, Jesús Lupiáñez, and the chief inspector of the force, Rafael Mora, presented the vehicles this morning, which have been acquired through a temporary renting contract.

The objective is to enhance the officers' mobility and expedite the response to security needs and citizen attention in a municipality with several population centres and a large area. Lupiáñez explained that the renting option allows for immediate access to the motorcycles while the City Council finalises the upcoming tender to renew the fleet.

“We are talking about security, response capability, and facilitating the daily work of our police officers. These four motorcycles will reinforce the resources of our Local Police and improve their mobility in a municipality with very particular territorial characteristics, with different population centres and a wide expanse,” the mayor stated.

Lupiáñez insisted that the City Council is not waiting to complete the renewal procedures to address the current needs of the service: “While we work on the next tender, we have sought a solution that allows us to incorporate these vehicles now.”

For his part, the chief inspector highlighted the usefulness of the motorcycles for daily operational service and to ensure a close police presence throughout the municipality.

This incorporation is part of the plan to renew the material resources of the force. In August 2024, the City Council presented twelve new vehicles for the Local Police and Civil Protection through a renting contract with an investment of 870,000 euros for 48 months.

The four motorcycles are already operational and will be deployed according to the service's needs. The tender for the purchase of new vehicles is still being prepared.
