The Torre del Mar International Air Festival celebrates its 11th edition from September 4 to 6 with over 33 aircraft and the new Mirlo Formation. Hotel occupancy for that weekend is already almost full.
The sky of Torre del Mar will once again be the stage for one of the most anticipated aviation events of the summer. The International Air Festival will celebrate its 11th edition on September 4, 5, and 6 with a programme that includes more than 33 aircraft and the participation of the new Mirlo Formation, one of the major novelties this year.
The first deputy mayor of Vélez-Málaga and deputy mayor of Torre del Mar, Jesús Pérez Atencia, presented the event accompanied by the councillor for Popular Traditions, Youth and Education, Lourdes Piña, and the festival director, Pablo González. Pérez Atencia highlighted that the event has become "one of the important events of the summer and a benchmark for aviation culture in our country."
The festival, which has been moved to September to promote tourist de-seasonalisation, aims to "extend the season and attract thousands of aviation enthusiasts in a month when visitor numbers traditionally begin to decline," explained the councillor. The economic impact is noticeable in hotels, restaurants, and shops, and Lourdes Piña confirmed that occupancy in Torre del Mar for that weekend is "practically full."
On the main day, Sunday September 6, 19 operational blocks and nearly four hours of exhibition are scheduled, approximately between 11:30 and 15:15. On Saturday September 5, the Sunset Air Show will take place, featuring five performances from 20:00 to 22:15, with the sunset as a backdrop.
Participation includes 18 display units spread across six civilian teams, four institutional teams, and eight military teams. Among the civilians are David Ceijeiro with paramotor, the Real Aeroclub de Sevilla, the Aerosparx formation, the autogyro of Francisco Javier Jiménez 'Francis', and the Yakstars formation, with Spanish and Portuguese pilots. The Guardia Civil will attend with the CN-235 aircraft, helicopter, and a parachutist display, while the Cuerpo Nacional de Policía will bring its helicopter.
Among the military attractions is the Mirlo Formation with its new Pilatus PC-21. Pablo González described it as "a very special formation" and indicated that "it will be spectacular to see them in action in the sky of Torre del Mar." Also participating will be the PAPEA, the Patrulla ASPA, the Eurofighter C-16, the A400M, the NH90 helicopter, and resources from the Group 43 of Air Forces, dedicated to firefighting.
The festival will include complementary activities such as an aeromodelling exhibition and the presence of the Air and Space Army Honour Patrol. The participating pilots will hold licenses from Spain, Portugal, and the United Kingdom.
The exhibitions can be followed from the promenade of Torre del Mar, with free access for the public. It is recommended to arrive early to find a good spot, given the high number of expected visitors.
