The mayor of Málaga suggested in Ceuta European scholarships for Moroccan minors to study in their country. Vox responded on social media: "Pay for them out of your own pocket."
Vox Málaga has lashed out this Thursday against the mayor of the capital, Francisco de la Torre, for proposing during his visit to Ceuta the creation of scholarships funded by the European Union for Moroccan minors and youth to pursue vocational training in their country.
De la Torre travelled on Wednesday to the autonomous city to show his support for its president, Juan Jesús Vivas. There, before the media, he defended the possibility of Europe backing these aids: "For days now, I have been considering the possibility that Europe supports the creation of scholarships for Moroccan minors who have entered here so that, in the vocational training centres in Morocco, they can receive training in various specialties that may be interesting for their country," the mayor argued.
The mayor insisted on betting on "an educational effort" because "the human capital of any country or territory is the most important thing." His words quickly generated a political response in the province.
"Let’s see, @pacodelatorrep, if you want scholarships for Moroccans, pay for them out of your own pocket."
This message, shared on the provincial account of Vox on the social network X, accompanies a clip of the mayor's statements. The party added: "You are the mayor of Málaga. Defend the interests of the people of Málaga for once and stop promoting massive illegal immigration with absurd and irresponsible proposals."
The regional leader of Vox, Manuel Gavira, vice president and councillor of Tourism of the Junta de Andalucía, has also spoken out. On his personal account on X, he published a screenshot of the news published by El Faro de Ceuta about De la Torre's proposal, accompanied by an emoticon expressing frustration or disappointment.
The controversy comes at a time of particular sensitivity regarding migration in Ceuta, where the pressure of unaccompanied minors is a recurring issue. The proposal from the Málaga mayor seeks an educational solution at the source but clashes directly with Vox's discourse, which sees it as an incentive for irregular immigration.
So far, neither the Málaga City Council nor De la Torre has publicly responded to the criticisms. The visit to Ceuta was framed as a gesture of institutional solidarity with the autonomous city and its president.
