The Civil Guard has carried out an operation in Burgos that culminated in the arrest of two individuals for their involvement in an irregular immigration network.
This organization recruited pregnant women of Brazilian nationality who were residing irregularly in European Union countries. The aim was to transport them to Spain to give birth and thereby obtain Spanish nationality for their children through the system of “simple presumption”.
Services Offered by the Network
The detainees offered a comprehensive service, with costs ranging from 1,000 to 2,500 euros. This service included searching for and booking accommodation, usually in shared rooms, as well as transfers, translation, and advice for managing the necessary documentation to obtain Spanish nationality.
During the period leading up to the birth, the network provided logistical support to the women, organizing trips to health centres and hospitals, and assisting with the procedures related to the birth of the children.
Further Investigations and Charges
The authorities have also found evidence that those involved used falsified rental contracts to simulate residency in Spain. This allowed them to formalize registrations and obtain administrative benefits for the regularization of the parents.
The detainees face several charges, including facilitating irregular immigration, criminal organization, document forgery, and coercion. The operation remains open, and further arrests are not ruled out in the future.
The detainees have already been placed at the disposal of the Villarcayo Court of First Instance, which is carrying out the necessary proceedings in this investigation.
