The tenth edition of the Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano will be held in Rincón de la Victoria from September 8 to 13. 57 restaurants will offer free tastings, and there will be showcookings, the Sabor a Málaga fair, and cultural activities.
The City Council of Rincón de la Victoria presented this Tuesday the programme for the Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano 2026, which will take place from September 8 to 13 and celebrates its tenth edition with a live cooking format. The event, promoted by the Tourism Department, will turn the municipality into the gastronomic epicentre of the province for six consecutive days, being the only festival in Málaga with such duration.
The mayor, Francisco Salado, accompanied by the tourism councillor, Antonio José Martín, and the commerce councillor, Lola Ramos, has revealed the details: 57 restaurants will participate, of which 66 will offer free tastings of fried and pickled boquerones, both at the fair and in their establishments, with over 1,100 kilos of product. Tastings in the restaurants will begin on September 4.
Salado highlighted that the format has made the boquerón victoriano the thread that connects a week of live cooking, maritime identity, and promotion of the municipality. “It is a daily and deeply local product that stimulates knowledge, culinary creativity, and consumption in our establishments,” he noted.
The programme of showcookings will kick off on Tuesday, September 8 at 20:30 at La Calma Playa, with an inaugural session led by Enrique Sánchez, presenter of the Cómetelo programme on Canal Sur. The same venue will host the events on Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10, while on Friday 11 it will move to Plaza Al Ándalus, within the Sabor a Málaga fair, with free access until full capacity is reached.
Wednesday's event, titled “The boquerón has a history,” will bring together chefs from the first editions: Juan Antonio Aguilar (Hotel Cabogata Beach, Association of Paradores Chefs) with Guadalupe Montejo (Amuco); Abilio Arteaga (Casa Abilio, Álora) with José Andrés Jiménez (Almijara, Eurotoques); and Reyna Traverso (Niña Bonita) with Pepo Frade (Aire Gastrobar).
On Thursday 10, under the title “The boquerón of gastronomic capital,” dedicated to Málaga's distinction as European Capital of Gastronomic Culture, will feature Fran Rascado (Alaparte), cocktail maker Hugo Boscovich (359 Cocktail Concept), and the duo of Ana Rollán Serrano and Guadalupe Peñalver Ramírez (Juana Paloma). Friday 11 will conclude with “From Rincón, the boquerón,” starring Cristina Vargas Pérez (La Quisquillosa) and Gonzalo Roldán (La Finca), both restaurants from the municipality.
In total, there will be eleven chefs, one cocktail maker, one sommelier, and an expert in extra virgin olive oil. The showcookings will be presented by journalist Juan Carlos González (Andalucía Directo), with wine pairings by Mª Ángeles Henares and olive oil harmonies by Paco Lorenzo. Tickets for the sessions at La Calma Playa can be reserved on the Zibarit website or at the Municipal Tourism Office.
The Sabor a Málaga Fair, organized by the Provincial Council, will be set up in Plaza Al Ándalus on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 from 11:00 to 22:00, and on Sunday 13 from 11:00 to 21:00. It will feature 32 producers from the province and a solidarity tent benefiting the Rincón Contigo association, in collaboration with Cervezas Victoria. There will also be tastings of wines, cheeses, oils, and chocolates, live cooking workshops, children's workshops, and the second edition of the popular pickled boquerones contest, with registration open until September 7.
On Saturday 12 at 8:00, next to the San Juan stream, the traditional tira del copo will be recreated with the Rowing Club of La Cala del Moral, followed by a marengo breakfast in the pergola of the boatyard. Live music will feature Iván Zea (14:00) and Miranda Cuenca (20:00). On Sunday 13, the children's show The Adventures of Peneque El Valiente (12:00) and the performance by Señor Mirinda (19:00) will bring the event to a close.
