The Rincón de la Victoria Town Hall expands its digital offerings with a skill for Amazon Alexa and geolocated podcasts narrated by locals, in Spanish and English.
The municipality of Rincón de la Victoria has launched two new digital tools to bring its heritage and tourist resources closer to both visitors and residents. The Tourism Department has implemented a skill for Amazon Alexa and a collection of geolocated podcasts that cover eleven points of interest in the municipality.
The skill, activated by voice and available in Spanish and English, allows users to consult updated information on events, fairs, beaches, cultural heritage, restaurants, accommodations, transport, and outdoor activities. The data is sourced directly from the official tourism portal turismoenrincon.es, ensuring that the information is always up to date.
The Councillor for Tourism, Antonio José Martín, explained that this initiative “represents a further step in the modernisation of municipal tourist information, with tools adapted to new habits of accessing information.” The system has been deployed on the Amazon Web Services cloud with a serverless architecture, which allows for an estimated operational cost of between 18 and 27 euros per month.
To use the skill, interested parties must download it from the Alexa app. Additionally, the tool provides visual information on devices with screens, such as the Amazon Echo Show, and a monitoring panel that will allow the Town Hall to know which content generates the most interest and what queries users make.
Podcasts with a local accent
The second project consists of a collection of geolocated tourist podcasts, narrated by locals and people connected to the municipality. The content, also in Spanish and English, can be played on platforms such as Vimeo, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, iVoox, OnWayPod, and Oklocated.
On Oklocated, the audio is automatically activated by proximity using Bluetooth beacons. On the other platforms, access is gained by scanning the QR codes installed on the signage of the tourist resources. The podcasts cover eleven points of interest, including the Church of La Cala del Moral, the Fishermen's Quarter, the Caves of Cantal, the Archaeological Park of the Mediterranean, the Cliffs and the Tower of Cantal, the statue of Noctiluca, Plaza Pepe el Boticario, Casa Fuerte Bezmiliana, the old station of Torre de Benagalbón, Villa Antiopa, and the Benagalbón Folklore Centre.
The mayor, Francisco Salado, highlighted that these resources “allow us to continue advancing in the digital transformation of our tourist destination, putting technology at the service of locals and visitors.” He also emphasised the role of the people who know the municipality best, “its history, its traditions, and its corners.”
One of the values of the initiative is the selfless participation of the locals. Alfonso Guerra, a resident of La Cala del Moral and connected to the church and Holy Week, shares his knowledge about the Church of La Cala del Moral. Guerra was a refounder and the Senior Brother until 2026 of the Brotherhood of Our Lady of the Rosary, Most Holy Christ Crucified, and Our Lady of Sorrows, one of the oldest in Axarquía, which will celebrate its hundredth anniversary in 2027.
For his part, José Luis Ramos, son of a fisherman and raised in the neighbourhood, narrates the history of the Fishermen's Quarter of La Cala del Moral. These voices provide a close and authentic view of the places and the history of the municipality.
Interested parties can start using the Alexa skill immediately, and the podcasts are already available on the mentioned platforms. The information will be expanded based on user feedback, with the aim of continuously improving the tourist experience in Rincón de la Victoria.
