The Nerja Town Hall opens the tender for the redevelopment of Cantarero Street in Maro, with a budget of 340,377.96 euros and a four-month execution period. Companies can submit bids until September 24.
The Nerja Town Hall has put out to tender the redevelopment of Cantarero Street in the Maro district, with a base budget of 340,377.96 euros and a maximum execution period of four months. The Local Government Board approved the file and the terms, and the call for bids is already published on the municipal Contractor Profile, as reported by the Town Hall.
Interested companies have until September 24 to submit their bids. The project has the authorization of the Territorial Delegation of Culture of the Junta de Andalucía, a necessary procedure because the Maro area is within the protection scope of the Cultural Heritage site of the Nerja Caves, as noted by Diario Sur.
The Councillor for Infrastructure, María del Carmen López (PP), explained that the opening of the procedure comes after the approval of the terms and reminded that the approval from the Culture department was necessary due to the heritage protection conditions of the area.
The mayor, José Alberto Armijo (PP), framed the action within the investment programme that the municipal government team is developing in Maro. “We continue to promote investments to improve the streets of Maro, advancing in the transformation and modernisation of its urban spaces,” he stated. The mayor pointed out that Cantarero adds to the interventions already carried out on San José, San Joaquín, and Cristo streets.
The renovation includes the renewal of underground infrastructures for sanitation, stormwater, supply, telecommunications, and public lighting, as well as improvements in paving, signage, landscaping, and urban furniture. The aim is to update both the services and the accessibility and appearance of the street.
The project has been in the works for several years. In July 2024, the Town Hall approved the projects for Cantarero and Cristo, which together amounted to an estimated investment of around 495,000 euros. In September 2025, the Cantarero project was presented to the residents with a forecast of 340,000 euros and four months of works, figures that coincide with those now being tendered. At that meeting, the Town Hall committed to incorporating residents' contributions.
The local mayor of Maro, Nuchi Moreno, defended that the investment continues the improvement of the infrastructure in the area. “With this new investment, our Town Hall reaffirms its commitment to Maro,” she assured, before stating the goal of having streets that are “more modern, accessible, and in line with the needs of the residents of Maro.”
After the bid deadline closes, the Town Hall will evaluate the proposals and award the contract. The start date for the works will depend on that award and the formalisation of the contract; once they begin, the maximum expected period is four months. The Town Hall has already indicated that, when Cantarero is completed, the intention is to continue with Maravillas Street.
