In Málaga, the delegate of the Junta de Andalucía, Patricia Navarro, held an institutional meeting with the new mayor of Algarrobo, Sergio Cotilla. During this meeting, ongoing projects and future actions that will benefit the economic and social development of the municipality were discussed.
Investments in Algarrobo since 2019
Patricia Navarro emphasised that the collaboration between the Junta and the Town Hall has resulted in nearly 10 million euros in direct investments since 2019. This funding has been allocated to improve healthcare, hydraulic infrastructure, employment, education, and public services.
The delegate also highlighted that the new administration will not mean a halt in municipal action, but rather will provide a new impetus to carry out projects for the benefit of the citizens. "When administrations work in a coordinated manner, a better response is provided to the needs of the inhabitants," Navarro stated.
Projects in key areas
In the field of healthcare, improvements have been made at the health centre, including the opening of a new paediatrics consultation and a dental office. Additionally, the completion of the new medical office in Algarrobo-Costa is expected, with an investment of nearly 700,000 euros, which will significantly increase the number of consultations and improve accessibility.
The investments have also included works at the wastewater treatment plant and the repair of channels damaged by flooding. In 2025, 233,000 euros were allocated to these essential tasks for the safety of residents. Furthermore, Algarrobo has joined the Metropolitan Transport Consortium, which facilitates access to more affordable transport options.
In terms of education, the offerings at IES Trayamar have been expanded to include the Baccalaureate, thus eliminating the need for travel to other towns. Half a million euros have also been invested in improving educational centres and implementing digital classrooms.
On the other hand, regarding housing and employment, the construction of 57 protected homes is underway, and 11 new autonomous businesses have been promoted in the municipality, with financial support from the Employment Department.
Patricia Navarro concluded by expressing the Junta de Andalucía's commitment to Algarrobo, with a total investment of 15.6 million euros for Axarquía in 2026 and over 176 million since 2019, reflecting the interest in improving the quality of life for its residents.
