The Axarquía town will host the ninth edition of the Fiesta de la Gramola on Saturday, August 29, a party themed around the 60s, 70s, and 80s with music, costumes, and prizes.
Canillas de Albaida will celebrate the IX edition of the Fiesta de la Gramola this Saturday, August 29, at 10:30 PM in the plaza Nuestra Señora del Rosario, an event that pays tribute to the music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s and has become the gathering that bids farewell to summer in the region.
The presentation was led by the president of the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Axarquía, Jorge Martín; the mayor of the town, Encarnación Pareja; the councillor for Tourism, Luis López, and the councillor for Fiestas, Concepción Ruiz.
Martín highlighted that the festival has established itself as a summer farewell for both locals and visitors, not only from Canillas de Albaida but from many towns in the Axarquía. "It’s a very fun party that brings together generations through music, movies, or series that have been part of our lives," he noted, encouraging attendees to come "dressed as a singer, group, or character".
The president of the Mancomunidad also reminisced about the time when music was listened to on vinyl records or cassette tapes and one had to get up from the sofa to change the channel on the television.
The councillor for Tourism explained that it’s not a party for spectators: "Here, people really get involved." To dress up, he said, it’s enough to have "creativity, a shirt you’ve already retired, the bell-bottom trousers you didn’t throw away, and a bit of volume in your hair or a wig." López insisted that "music has no age" and that the songs played will be those that one knows the lyrics to even if they haven’t heard them in twenty years.
The mayor detailed that the party started ten years ago and was only interrupted twice due to the Covid pandemic. "It’s a family-friendly event where both young and old participate, all dressed up to enjoy the music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s," Pareja stated.
The music will be provided by DJs José Carlos García from Radio Nostalgia and Toni Solís from La Jungla Radio, playing until dawn. There will be prizes for the best costumes, best groups, couples, adults, and children, as well as for the King and Queen of the Party, who will be those who not only dress well but also show the most enthusiasm. Groups can choose from artists, bands, or characters from iconic movies or series.
This year there will be a charity bar benefiting the Asociación Stop AME Vamos Higinio, created to assist a seven-year-old child from the municipality suffering from spinal muscular atrophy, a neurodegenerative disease diagnosed when he was four or five months old. The funds will go towards healthcare expenses such as physiotherapy or speech therapy and research through the association.
The mayor has invited everyone to participate in this party, which presents itself as the most fun way to end the summer in the Axarquía.
