The Bullring of Antequera will host the Goyesca Bullfight and the traditional Rejoneo on August 22 and 23, marking the countdown to its centenary in 2028.

The Bullring of Antequera is preparing for two high-voltage bullfighting days during the Real Feria de Agosto. The Taurina de Buendía company has presented the posters for the Rejoneo and Goyesca Bullfights, which this year carry added symbolic value: there are only two summers left until the Goyesca reaches its hundredth anniversary.

Luxury lineup for rejoneo and foot bullfighting

On Saturday, August 22, at 19:30, the arena of Antequera will welcome three stars of rejoneo: Andy Cartagena, Diego Ventura, and Leonardo Hernández. The horsemen will face bulls from the Benítez Cubero-Pallarés livestock, a brand that guarantees excitement and spirit.

The next day, Sunday 23 at the same time, the main event will arrive: the Goyesca Bullfight. In this edition, the matadors Juan Ortega, Pablo Aguado, and David de Miranda will tackle bulls from the Astolfi livestock. All three bullfighters are in excellent form, promising an afternoon of high quality.

Countdown to the centenary of 2028

The Goyesca of Antequera is one of the longest-standing events in the Andalusian bullfighting calendar. It was born in 1928 when a group of local enthusiasts promoted a Goyesca bullfight to embellish the fair. Almost a century later, the Antequera venue remains true to tradition, and next year, 2028, will mark the centenary. The organising company is already preparing commemorative events, although details will be revealed later.

The mayor of Antequera, Manuel Barón, and the councillor for Culture, José Medina Galeote, attended the presentation of the posters at the Silken Antequera Hills Hotel. Barón highlighted “the importance of keeping alive a tradition that is part of our city's identity.” For his part, the businessman Jorge Buendía emphasised that “bringing these figures together in the same weekend is a luxury for fans.”

For the residents of Antequera and the surrounding area, these two celebrations mark the kickoff of the big fair. The streets will be filled with atmosphere, and the square will be dressed for the occasion. Those wishing to secure a good spot in the stands should stay alert: tickets and passes will go on sale on August 10 at the Bullring box office and on the company's website. Additionally, there is a combined pass for both days with a discount similar to last year, an interesting option for those who don’t want to miss a single moment.

The bullfighting tradition in Antequera cannot be understood without its Goyesca, and this year, with an eye on the centenary, the venue will be the epicentre of the passion for bulls in the province. Local fans are already revving up: on August 22 and 23, the square will be the place where the art of bullfighting and rejoneo meets history.
