The Junta de Andalucía recognises the municipality in Huelva in the category of Coastal Destination of Excellence for its trajectory and diversified model. The mayor, Margarita del Cid, dedicates the award to the residents.
The Junta de Andalucía has awarded Torremolinos the 2026 Andalucía Tourism Award in the category of Coastal Destination of Excellence. The decision was announced this afternoon at the Auditorium of the Casa Colón in Huelva, during an event attended by the mayor, Margarita del Cid, and the second vice president and councillor of Tourism, Justice, Deregulation and Local Administration, Manuel Gavira.
The category rewards coastal destinations in Andalusia that promote a tourism model based on sustainability, social cohesion, the identity values of Andalusia, and continuous quality improvement. This edition also saw competition from the Intermunicipal Community of Islantilla (Huelva) and the Town Hall of Mojácar (Almería).
The Junta justifies the award by highlighting Torremolinos' status as a pioneering municipality in the history of tourism and its ability to renew itself over the decades, with an innovative offer that is committed to the territory and inclusive. The regional body emphasises its diversity, its adaptation to new traveller demands, and its ability to incorporate new experiences.
The mayor has framed the award within the week that begins this Friday with the San Miguel Arcángel festivities and which on Sunday the 27th celebrates World Tourism Day and the anniversary of Torremolinos' independence from Málaga, a date on which the Town Hall presents its honours and distinctions.
“Without a doubt, this award is for them because, if there is anything that makes Torremolinos the best days of the year for millions of people over the last few decades, it is thanks to the quality of the people of Torremolinos who have tourism in their DNA. So, to all of them, thank you very much.”
Del Cid added that the recognition “is a source of pride for the entire city and, at the same time, a boost to continue moving forward.” The mayor pointed out that Torremolinos is a consolidated destination, but the Town Hall does not want to rest on its laurels and is working to adapt to new demands and ways of travelling.
“This award recognises a trajectory, but above all, it encourages us to keep looking forward, betting on a more sustainable, innovative, and higher quality tourism model, capable of generating opportunities and continuing to make Torremolinos a tourism benchmark in Andalusia.”
The Andalucía Tourism Awards, promoted by the Tourism Department of the Junta, recognise each year individuals, companies, institutions, and destinations that stand out for their contribution, quality, and excellence in the Andalusian tourism sector.
