The Mijas Town Council has launched the summer camps once again, benefiting more than 2,200 boys and girls in the three areas of the municipality. The mayor, Ana Mata, visited the Tamixa school to check on the progress of the activities.
More than 2,200 minors from Mijas are participating this summer in the educational and sports camps organized by the Town Council, an initiative aimed at promoting physical activity and facilitating family reconciliation during the months of July and August. The activities take place in various facilities spread across the three areas of the municipality.
Visit to Tamixa School
The mayor, Ana Mata, accompanied by the Councillor for Social Inclusion, Mari Francis Alarcón, and the Councillor for Education, Juan José Torres, visited the Tamixa school in Las Lagunas this morning. There, 170 boys and girls are participating in sports, crafts, and water games, supervised by specialized monitors who attend to all needs.
Mata highlighted that these camps “provide a leisure and education option throughout July and August that satisfies parents and is appealing to minors.” The municipal commitment to these services is strong, with a total of 1,600 registered in the municipal summer schools.
Collaboration with sports clubs
In addition to the municipal schools, the sports clubs that use municipal facilities host 600 minors, bringing the total number of participants to 2,200. This collaboration allows for an expanded offer of leisure and sports for the children of Mijas during the summer holidays.
The mayor has thanked the clubs for their efforts and emphasized the importance of maintaining these activities to support the work-life balance of the parents in the municipality.
Corresponsables Plan
The summer school at Tamixa also runs under the Corresponsables Plan, an initiative that collaborates with the Andalusian Government and the Ministry of Equality. It is aimed at minors aged between 3 and 14 from families registered in Mijas with fewer resources.
This school has a facilitator, three socio-cultural animation monitors, and special education monitors, ensuring integration and equality in enjoying the camp. In addition to vulnerable families, it is also aimed at single-parent and large families, always with the goal of helping those who need it most.
The initiative provides extra support for many families in Mijas who, during the summer, can leave their children in a safe and educational environment while they continue with their professional obligations. The camps will run until the end of August, with schedules adapted to the needs of parents.
