The III Charity Race ‘Route 091’, organised by the National Police in Fuengirola, will take place on September 5. Registrations, costing €13 for adults and €10 for minors, are open on the official website and the proceeds will go to the Alzheimer’s Family Association Fuengirola-Mijas (AFA).
The mayor of Fuengirola, Ana Mula, presented this Tuesday the third edition of the charity race ‘Route 091’, an initiative of the National Police that will take place on September 5 with the start at 19:00 from Pedro Cuevas Square. The event, which combines sport and solidarity, will donate all its proceeds to the Alzheimer’s Family Association Fuengirola-Mijas (AFA).
A Sporting Event with a Charitable Cause
The main race, measuring 5,091 metres, will run along the Promenade to the Carvajal area and return to the starting point. Participants can register on the official website www.ruta091.es until September 1. The price is €13 for adults and €10 for minors in the children's category, which will have distances ranging from 200 to 400 metres depending on age.
“In Fuengirola, we are very proud of the National Police. This event we present today is an example of the best values that our city embodies: solidarity and collaboration between entities,” declared the mayor during the presentation event held at the Tenencia Alcaldía of El Boquetillo. The event was also attended by the chief commissioner of the National Police in the locality, Juan Cabas, the director of the Santander Bank office as a sponsor, and the director of the Adolfo Suárez day centre, Rocío Segovia.
“As mayor, it is an honour to provide the necessary resources to make this sporting event a reality, whose proceeds will be entirely dedicated to the extraordinary work of AFA,” added Ana Mula.
Institutional Collaboration and Support for AFA
The Alzheimer’s Family Association Fuengirola-Mijas (AFA) has been providing support to patients and families in the region for years. The proceeds from the race will help maintain and expand their services, which include cognitive therapies, psychological care, and a day centre. The centre's director, Rocío Segovia, expressed gratitude for the initiative and highlighted the importance of such events in raising awareness about the disease.
Commissioner Juan Cabas emphasised that ‘Route 091’ was born in 2022 as a way to bring the National Police closer to the public and promote values such as solidarity and sport. In previous editions, the race managed to gather hundreds of runners and raise funds for social causes. The number of participants in 2024 exceeded 500 registered, and this year it is hoped to match or improve that figure.
Route and Recommendations for Runners
The start and finish will be at Pedro Cuevas Square, a central point in Fuengirola that will facilitate access for participants and the public. The route, designed by the Sports Department, mainly runs along the Promenade, offering sea views and flat terrain ideal for runners of all levels. It is recommended to arrive early to collect the bib number and commemorative t-shirt, which will be handed out on the day of the event.
The organisation has arranged for a refreshment and medical assistance service along the route. Additionally, attendees can enjoy parallel activities in the starting area, such as a warm-up class led by sports instructors. The Fuengirola City Council collaborates with the National Police in coordinating the event, ensuring safety and necessary traffic closures.
For those who cannot run but wish to contribute, there is an option to make a donation through the same registration website. The initiative aims to involve the entire Fuengirola community in a cause that affects many families in the locality and in Mijas.
