The Mijas Town Hall has awarded the projects for two new car parks next to the CEIP Indira Gandhi and in the Barrio Santana, which will total more than 650 spaces. Four other projects are in the proposal phase and will exceed an additional 1,800 spaces.
The Mijas Town Hall has taken another step in its plan to expand parking availability in the municipality with the awarding of the projects for two new facilities. These are the car park next to the CEIP Indira Gandhi, in Las Lagunas, and the one in Barrio Santana, in Mijas Pueblo, which together will provide more than 650 parking spaces.
The Councillor for Contracts, Juan José Torres, has reported that the project for the car park at the Indira Gandhi school has been awarded to the company Ingeniería Atecsur SL for an amount of €13,148.35. The execution period is 60 days, so the Town Hall will receive the technical project in less than two months and will be able to tender the construction works.
In the case of the car park in Barrio Santana, the award has gone to a temporary union of companies (UTE) formed by Ingeniería Atecsur SL and Roma Ingenieros. The amount rises to €72,756.53 and the deadline for submitting the work is 120 days. It is estimated that this car park will have 424 spaces, while the one at the Indira Gandhi school will have 250.
Torres highlighted that these two projects are in addition to four others that are already in the proposal phase for awarding: those in Las Cañadas (280 spaces), Don Elías (433), La Vega (480) and the boulevard of La Cala (580). Together, these four facilities will exceed 1,800 parking spaces, which, combined with the more than 650 from the two awarded projects, raises the total forecast to over 2,450 new spaces.
Additionally, the Town Hall plans to put the works for the Mijas Pueblo car park out to tender before the end of the year. This project is already approved and will add more than 600 spaces to those currently available in the historic centre.
The parking plan of the Mijas council responds to the growing demand for parking in the municipality, especially in areas such as Las Lagunas and the urban core of Mijas Pueblo, where traffic density and lack of spaces create problems for residents. With these actions, the Town Hall aims to relieve pressure and facilitate access to local services and shops.
The drafting deadlines for the projects range from 60 to 120 days, so it is expected that the works can begin throughout the next year. The councillor has emphasized that this is an important step to improve mobility and the quality of life for residents.
