The Marbella City Council is promoting a budget modification of €1.768 million to renew the playground on Avenida de la Constitución, the one in Fuentenueva, the skatepark, and to complete the library in San Pedro Alcántara, as well as to install a traffic-light pedestrian crossing on the A-397.

The Deputy Mayor of San Pedro Alcántara, Javier García, announced on Tuesday a new series of investments worth €1,768,000 to improve public facilities in the San Pedro area. The actions, which will be financed through a budget modification to be presented at the July Plenary, range from the renovation of playgrounds to the completion of the municipal library.

More modern and shaded playgrounds

One of the flagship projects is the complete renovation of the playground on Avenida de la Constitución, a space frequently visited by families. According to García, it will be fully modernised and new shaded areas will be added to encourage its use throughout the year. This action is in addition to the renovation of the playground on Fuentenueva Street, located in one of the main walking areas of the urban centre, where shading structures will also be installed.

Furthermore, the budget modification will allow for the rehabilitation and enhancement of the skatepark on Avenida Luis Braille, a facility primarily aimed at young people. The goal is to adapt it to improve its functionality so that young residents of San Pedro can enjoy a safe and modern space.

Road safety and municipal library

In terms of mobility, the City Council will execute a traffic-light pedestrian crossing on the urban stretch of the A-397 road, in the Bello Horizonte area. This is an action widely requested by residents to enhance the safety of pedestrian movements and improve the connection with the urban centre of San Pedro Alcántara.

The proposal also includes an allocation of over one million euros to complement the works of the San Pedro Alcántara Municipal Library, currently under construction next to the future health centre in the western area. This additional investment will allow progress towards the completion of a much-anticipated cultural facility for residents.

“These initiatives respond to the commitment to continue improving the quality of life for residents and are aimed at providing safer and more accessible public infrastructure,” stated Javier García.

Reduction of payment terms to suppliers

On another note, the municipal spokesperson, Félix Romero, reported that the average payment period to suppliers has been reduced by 20 days, from 48 days recorded a year ago to the current 28 days. The councillor highlighted that this indicator reflects the City Council's commitment to a “rigorous, planned and responsible” management of public resources, ensuring compliance with obligations within the established deadlines.

For the residents of San Pedro Alcántara, these improvements will represent a qualitative leap in their daily lives. The renovated parks will offer safer and more comfortable leisure spaces, the skatepark will become a meeting point for young people, and the new pedestrian crossing will facilitate walking in a heavily trafficked area. The library, in turn, will strengthen the cultural offerings in the area.

The actions will be financed through a budget modification that must be approved at the July Plenary. If it goes ahead, the works could begin in the coming months, with execution times ranging from a few weeks to several trimesters, depending on the complexity of each project.
