On the night of July 15, the eve of the Carmen festival, Plaza de España in Marín hosted a grand fair with the Marbella orchestra and the folk group Celme, filling the town centre with music and dance.
The eve of the Carmen fair in Marín brought together hundreds of people in Plaza de España, where the Marbella Orchestra put on a spectacular light and sound show that overflowed the usual space. The audience, which packed the square and extended along the promenade, enjoyed a festive night that marks the beginning of the main events of the patron saint festivities.
Performances and Festive Atmosphere
Throughout the afternoon, the folk group Celme, from Pontevedra, performed in the promenade at nine o'clock. Their repertoire of traditional Galician music was warmly applauded by attendees, who sang and danced to the rhythm of tambourines and bagpipes. The day began with the morning departure of the group Máis Cantos, which toured the streets of the town centre, encouraging the locals.
Meanwhile, the Club Xadrez Marín organised a chess activity in the promenade, attracting enthusiasts of all ages. In the parish of Seixo, a mass and torch procession was held, with the image of the Virgin of Carmen being carried from the church to the port of Aguete, accompanied by the group Os de Carballido. The image will return to the temple tomorrow for the solemn mass.
The Big Day: Friday, July 16
The programme for Friday, the day of Carmen, includes religious events in Marín centre and Seixo. At 10:00, the Royal Dispatches at the Naval Military School will be awarded, a military ceremony of great tradition. In Seixo, at the same time, the Cultural Music Band of Arcade will entertain the streets with a parade.
At 11:30, in Seixo, a floral offering will be made to the people of the sea at the port of Aguete, followed by a procession to the church of Seixo, where the solemn mass will be held. In Marín centre, at 12:00, the Coral Lembranzas will provide the musical note at the mass in honour of the Virgin of Carmen in the Templo Novo.
In the afternoon, at 18:30, the floral offering will depart from the Concello, and at 19:00 the maritime procession of the Virgin of Carmen will take place, with the Chaneiros and the Marín Music Band. At 21:00, magician Paco will present a children's magic show in the promenade, and at 23:00 the orchestra Los Player's will liven up Plaza de España. The day will culminate at midnight with a grand fireworks display on Alcalde Blanco promenade.
Final Stretch of the Festivities
After the day of Carmen, the festivities will continue on Friday 17 with the Children's Day, featuring attractions in Plaza de España. In Seixo, at 21:00, the Marín Music Band will offer a concert, and at 22:30 the orchestra Triunfo and a popular queimada will animate the Seixo promenade. On Saturday 18, there will be children's activities with magician Rey Midas, a billarda tournament, and musical performances by Bela&Charlo and DJ Alex Barros. On Sunday 19, the 5th chave shooting tournament will be held in Seixo.
For attendees, it is recommended to arrive early for the scheduled events, especially for the maritime procession and the fireworks, which are the most crowded events. The Concello of Marín has set up a special security and cleaning operation to ensure the smooth running of the festivities.
