The Marbella City Council will definitively approve the new General Plan for Urban Planning (PGOM) on Friday the 18th, becoming the first municipality in Andalusia to adapt its urban planning to the Law for the Promotion of Sustainability of the Territory (LISTA).

The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, held a working meeting with the councillor for Housing, Youth and Land Planning, Rocío Díaz, to discuss the status of the processing of the new document, which will replace the current urban planning from 1986. Muñoz highlighted the importance of completing a text that, in her words, "for a city like Marbella is absolutely essential."
"Marbella is going to be the first city in all of Andalusia to have the document approved with the new law, with the LISTA," the mayor pointed out.
The new PGOM will increase the urban land from the current approximately 40 million square meters to 53 million. This expansion will allow for the planning of new infrastructures and facilities, increase green areas, and promote the creation of housing, as detailed by Muñoz, who emphasized the need to facilitate access to housing for young people and workers in the municipality.
The mayor reminded that the document is "the result of a very participatory process, developed after extensive dialogue and consensus with groups, professional associations, and residents through the different districts," and has required more than 60 sectoral reports. She also stressed that the PGOM will enable the advancement of strategic projects such as the new City of Justice and improvements to the road network.
For her part, councillor Rocío Díaz valued the collaboration with the City Council and highlighted that the new planning will provide "legal security" in urban matters. Díaz recalled that the General Directorate issued the last favourable report in February and that since then, eight meetings of the working group established to promote the processing have been held.
"Finally, we are going to have the PGOM of Marbella approved in September, which will be the first adapted to the LISTA," the councillor stated.
The extraordinary plenary session on September 18 will give the final green light to the document, which will bury the planning from 1986 and will mark the urban development of Marbella for the coming decades.
