The Fuengirola City Council is holding a cybersecurity and consumer fraud event this Thursday at the Royal Hall, featuring experts in telecommunications, OCU, and the Civil Guard.
The Fuengirola City Council, through the Department of Consumer Affairs, has organised Training and Prevention Days against Consumer Fraud focused on cybersecurity. The event will take place this Thursday, September 23 at the Royal Hall of the City Council, with free entry for all residents.
The Councillor for Consumer Affairs, Francisco Javier García Lara, has presented the initiative and encouraged the people of Fuengirola to participate in a session that will address increasingly common situations: online shopping, banking transactions from mobile devices, fraudulent messages and emails, social media, and applications.
“We live in an increasingly digitalised society. This reality offers us many advantages, but it also exposes us to new forms of fraud and scams,” the councillor stated.
The programme starts with the panel “Identify online fraud and protect your digital information”, featuring Ainoa Celaya Luna, Dean of the Official College of Telecommunications Engineers of Eastern Andalusia and Melilla, who will discuss forensic evidence and digital technology. Following this, lawyer and OCU representative in Málaga María Lafuente Fernández will review the most common types of fraud.
After a coffee break, at 12:00 hours, the second panel “Protect your money and your information: avoid online scams” will take place, with members of the @ Team of the Civil Guard, from the Málaga Cybercrime Investigation Team. The officers will explain how criminals operate and what to do to avoid becoming a victim of these crimes.
“It is especially important to have professionals who work directly in the investigation of these types of crimes, as they will allow us to learn firsthand about the most common scams and how we can act,” García Lara emphasised.
The event will conclude with a question and answer session from 13:30 to 14:00 hours, where attendees can raise their queries with the speakers. The activity is aimed at all citizens, regardless of age, and especially those who use mobile phones, shop online, or conduct online transactions.
“Cybersecurity is not just a technological issue. It is also a matter of consumer protection,” the councillor stated, inviting residents to “learn, resolve doubts, and acquire practical knowledge that we can apply in our daily lives.”
The event will take place this Thursday, September 23 starting at 21:30 hours in the Royal Hall of the Fuengirola City Council.
