The Fuengirola City Council and Ecovidrio will send letters to all households in the coming days to raise awareness about glass recycling. Collection has already increased by 11% since the last campaign.
The Councillor for Cleaning in Fuengirola, Carmen Díaz, has announced that in the coming days residents will receive an informative letter, sent by the City Council along with Ecovidrio, to remind them of the importance of recycling glass and to explain the objectives set by European regulations.
The initiative aims for the city to comply with the community directive which states that by 2030, 60% of municipal waste must be recycled. Díaz has pointed out that the response from the residents of Fuengirola has been positive, with an 11% increase in glass collection since the last awareness campaign.
“We want to remind residents of the importance of continuing to recycle, in this case a waste like glass,” the councillor stated.
The letter also emphasizes that recycling glass does not incur any cost for citizens and contributes to a cleaner and more sustainable city. Díaz has reminded that glass is a 100% recyclable material that can be recycled indefinitely, allowing for savings in raw materials and energy.
Additionally, the City Council reminds that there are containers and ecological islands available, and that in narrower streets where these facilities cannot fit, mini-glass containers have been installed. Residents who want one in their street can inform the City Council, which will consider its installation based on the needs of each area.
The letter will arrive at households in the coming days, as part of the joint campaign with Ecovidrio to continue advancing in the proper management of waste.
