The Junta and the City Council create a new commission in Málaga
The Junta de Andalucía and the City Council of Málaga announced today the creation of a transport infrastructure and mobility commission. This commission will meet periodically to address projects affecting the city and its metropolitan area.
The Minister of Development and Mobility, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, and the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, were responsible for formalising this agreement during a meeting in the Málaga capital.
Advances in the Metro and road improvements
During the meeting, Muñoz-Atanet reported on the latest advances of the Málaga Metro. Currently, three sections are being carried out simultaneously, with an investment exceeding 150 million euros. The works on the third section, which connects Eugenio Gross and Blas de Lezo, began this summer.
In addition, the minister mentioned the informative study for the future expansion of the Málaga Metro, which considers three possible routes: towards the PTA, Ciudad Jardín or El Palo-Rincón de la Victoria. After evaluating 34 alternatives, 12 proposals have been selected to be submitted for public information in the first half of 2027.
On the other hand, the commission has discussed medium and long-term plans to improve mobility in Málaga. It is expected to begin drafting a project to enable a third lane on the Guadalhorce Highway (A-357), between the A-7 and the El Viso Industrial Estate, before the end of the year. This action has an estimated budget of four million euros.
There will also be an analysis of the expansion of the BUS-VAO of the PTA and a capacity study of the A-357 at its entrance to the city, in the area between the PTA and Jiménez Fraud Street.
Minister Muñoz-Atanet emphasised the Junta's commitment to improving citizens' mobility. This new commission aims to provide viable and appropriate solutions for the people of Málaga and is open to citizen participation.
