The free outdoor show will serve as a general rehearsal before the group represents the city at an international contest in Greece.
The Fuengirola Municipal Dance Group will perform 'Roots of the South' on Thursday, July 30, at 21:00 in Parque de España. The performance, which is free and open to all, will act as a general rehearsal before the group travels to Greece to represent the city in an international competition.
The Councillor for Culture of the Fuengirola City Council, Rodrigo Romero, has presented this event, which is part of the municipality's summer cultural programme. During the presentation, Romero emphasised the council's commitment to promoting Andalusian folklore and valuing local traditions.
“We continue to offer performances in Parque de España with interesting and free proposals so that residents and visitors can enjoy outdoor culture during the summer. On this occasion, we have a show that highlights our roots and traditions through music and dance,” the councillor stated.
Romero also highlighted the history of the Fuengirola Municipal Dance Group, a formation with more than six decades of history that has taken the name of the city around the world. “We are talking about a group with over sixty years of history that has done an extraordinary job of keeping our traditions alive and taking the name of Fuengirola worldwide. It is a true pride for our city to have a group that has managed to preserve and transmit our cultural heritage from generation to generation,” he affirmed.
For her part, the representative of the Municipal Dance Group, Julia Palacios, encouraged residents and visitors to attend this event. “We want to encourage everyone to join us for a very special performance in which we will travel through Andalucía via its traditional dances, showcasing the richness and diversity of the folklore from each of its provinces. It will be a magnificent opportunity to enjoy our culture and share with the audience the work we have prepared with such enthusiasm,” she explained.
Palacios added that the performance will serve as a live rehearsal before the group's participation in the contest to be held in Greece. The Fuengirola group will compete in an international folk dance contest, where it will represent Andalucía and the city of Fuengirola.
Parque de España, located in the heart of the town, has become a regular venue for the summer cultural programme of the Fuengirola City Council. With outdoor seating and free entry, the space allows for various types of performances during the summer months, aiming to provide leisure alternatives for residents and tourists.
The Fuengirola Municipal Dance Group, founded in the 1960s, has participated in numerous national and international festivals, serving as an ambassador of Andalusian folklore. Its repertoire includes typical dances from the eight Andalusian provinces, as well as choreographies that reflect the history and customs of the region.
The event next Thursday will allow attendees to see firsthand the work the group has prepared for their engagement in Greece. The show 'Roots of the South' promises a journey through Andalucía via music and dance, with stops in provinces such as Seville, Cádiz, Córdoba, Granada, and Málaga.
Access to the event will be free until capacity is reached. It is recommended to arrive early to secure a good spot, especially considering that it is a summer night when Parque de España usually sees a high influx of visitors.
