The Municipal Library Network of Fuengirola welcomed 23,549 visitors in May and June 2026, an 18% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The Councillor for Culture, Rodrigo Romero, highlights the growth in members and activities.

The libraries of Fuengirola are experiencing a sweet moment. According to data presented this Wednesday by the Councillor for Culture, Rodrigo Romero, the Municipal Library Network recorded 23,549 visitors during the months of May and June 2026, representing an 18% increase compared to the same period last year. The councillor has described the results as “excellent” and emphasised that the upward trend from previous bimonthly periods continues.

More members and more activity in study rooms

The total number of members of the network has reached 39,767, with 207 new registrations in the last two months. The Javier Castillo study room, located in the Lope de Vega library, remains the most sought after by Fuengirola students, with a total of 8,752 users in May and June. However, the Los Boliches study room has doubled its monthly usage compared to previous months, with 2,167 users in the same period.

Romero has highlighted that these figures reflect “the magnificent performance of the libraries and the high participation in the activities offered.” The cultural offerings continue to grow: in these two months, 151 activities were scheduled, compared to 121 the previous year, and participants increased by 24%.

Literary days and reading clubs well received

In May, the VIII Children's and Youth Literature Days and the Children's and Youth Book Fair were held, attracting 2,713 attendees. Additionally, on June 19, the children's reading clubs closed with storyteller Jackeline de Barros, and the adult clubs with writer Vicente Luis Mora, who coordinated the reading of the novel 'Nada', attended by all the reading clubs in the city.

Looking ahead to summer, the library network is not slowing down. Special activities are planned to commemorate anniversaries such as the 109th birthday of Gloria Fuertes (July 28), the 83rd anniversary of Isabel Allende (August 2), and the 90th anniversary of the death of Federico García Lorca (August 18). There will also be a nod to comics with World Spiderman Day (August 1) and the 109th anniversary of Jack Kirby (August 28).

Anniversary of the Gloria Fuertes Library

On July 28 and 29, the first anniversary of the opening of the Gloria Fuertes Library in Los Boliches will be celebrated, with several children's activities in the facilities themselves. Romero has encouraged Fuengirola residents to continue using the libraries and has assured that the data “confirms the good moment that the Fuengirola library network is experiencing, which continues to grow both in users and activities and is consolidating as a cultural reference space in the city.”

For the residents of Fuengirola, this translates into more free leisure and study options, with extended hours and a programme that ranges from children's literature to comics. Those who are not yet members can register at any of the libraries in the network by simply presenting their ID.
