A man has suffered injuries after falling from a height of about four metres at a construction site on Camino Loma de Retamar in Guadalmansa-Cancelada, Estepona. The incident mobilised firefighters, paramedics, and the National Police.
The workplace accident occurred around 2:20 PM, when the Emergencias 112 Andalucía system received a call alerting them to the fall of a worker at a construction site located on Camino Loma de Retamar in Guadalmansa-Cancelada, within the municipality of Estepona.
Emergency services from the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters (CPB) of Málaga, medical services, National Police officers, as well as personnel from the Labour Inspection and the Occupational Risk Prevention Centre were dispatched to the scene.
Firefighters' intervention
The firefighters from the CPB unit in Estepona assisted the paramedics to stabilise, carry, and transport the injured person, who was evacuated to the hospital. The injured man, whose identity has not been disclosed, sustained injuries of varying severity after falling from a height of about four metres.
Sources from the Provincial Consortium have indicated that the intervention was carried out swiftly and that the worker was attended to at the scene before being transferred to a hospital, where he remains admitted. No further details about his health status have been provided.
Investigation underway
The Labour Inspection and the Occupational Risk Prevention Centre have opened an investigation to clarify the causes of the accident. The existing safety measures at the construction site will be analysed to determine if established protocols were followed.
This incident adds to other workplace accidents recorded in the province of Málaga so far this year. According to data from the CCOO union, during the first half of 2026, there have been more than a dozen serious incidents in the construction sector on the Costa del Sol.
The Estepona City Council has expressed concern over the accident and has reminded the importance of enhancing safety measures at construction sites. The councillor for Urban Planning has stated that they will cooperate with authorities to clarify what happened.
Meanwhile, residents of the Guadalmansa-Cancelada area have expressed their solidarity with the injured worker. Some residents have indicated that the construction had been ongoing for several weeks and that they were unaware of the details of the accident until they saw the presence of emergency services.
The incident has sparked a debate on social media about working conditions in the construction sector, especially during peak activity times like summer, when high temperatures can increase risks.
The Provincial Consortium of Firefighters has reminded that, in case of any emergency, it is essential to call 112 and not attempt to move the injured person to avoid further injuries.
