The Estepona Town Hall has opened to the public and vehicular traffic the area around the Church of Carmen after completing the surface urbanization works linked to the construction of the new underground car park of El Carmen.
The opening restores the connection between Manuel Navarro Mollor street and Virgen del Mar square. Manuel Navarro Mollor street maintains two-way traffic, while the section towards Virgen del Mar square is one-way.
The project has renovated the pavements and adapted the pedestrian and vehicle spaces. The area has also been landscaped with the planting of around thirty palm trees, 35 shade trees such as mulberries and tipuanas, over a hundred medium-sized palms like cycads, and shrub species such as crotons and dracaenas. Ground-covering flowering plants and grass have been added, along with a drip and sprinkler irrigation system.
These works complete the construction of the new public car park of El Carmen, which will have more than 300 spaces distributed across three underground levels. The execution has involved a high technical complexity due to its location in the urban centre and the proximity of adjacent buildings.
In recent months, the works focused on paving and urbanizing streets such as Manuel Navarro Mollor, Padre Fernando, and Guadiaro, as well as configuring the public space located above the car park. With this opening, residents and visitors regain the usual use of this central Estepona enclave.
