The Estepona City Council and the General Consulate of Colombia in Seville are strengthening ties to promote the integration of nearly 2,000 registered Colombians. The next initiative will be the arrival of a Mobile Consulate that will prevent trips to Seville.
The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, welcomed the Colombian consul general in Seville, Juan José Quintana Aranguren, on Thursday in a visit aimed at reinforcing collaboration between both institutions. The main objective: to boost the cultural integration of the Colombian community, which already totals around 2,000 registered individuals in the municipality.
During the meeting held at the Town Hall, both parties agreed on the need to strengthen ties and promote the participation of Colombians in the social, cultural, and community life of Estepona. The mayor highlighted the contribution of this group to local development and emphasized diversity as an element that enriches coexistence.
Mobile Consulate, the first concrete measure
One of the most immediate actions will be the arrival of the Mobile Consulate of Colombia in Estepona, as announced by the consul. This service will allow Colombian citizens to carry out bureaucratic procedures without having to travel to Seville, where the reference consular office is located. The dates are not yet confirmed, but it is expected to be in the coming months.
The mayor has valued this initiative as a step forward to make life easier for Colombian residents, who often face long journeys for administrative tasks. “We want them to feel like active members of Estepona,” García Urbano stated.
A meeting to listen to the community
After the institutional meeting, the consul held a gathering with members of the Colombian community where concerns and proposals were shared. It was a space for direct dialogue, where attendees could express their needs and suggest future lines of work.
The day concluded with a tour of the historic centre and the Orquidario of Estepona, where the diplomatic representative was able to learn about the main heritage and tourist attractions of the municipality. A symbolic gesture that reinforces the image of an open and welcoming city.
For the Colombian residents of Estepona, this visit represents a tangible advance in their relationship with local authorities. The Colombian community is one of the largest among foreigners in the municipality, and their integration is a priority for the City Council. The next event will be the Mobile Consulate, with dates to be announced soon through official channels.
