The Malaga town of Casares will celebrate the ninth edition of its Rosa Fina Flamenco Festival on August 21 and 22, featuring free performances in the Marcelino Camacho square and a lineup that combines tradition and innovation.
The Malaga municipality of Casares is finalising preparations to host the ninth edition of the Rosa Fina Flamenco Festival, which will take place on Friday, August 21, and Saturday, August 22. The event will bring together established figures and new talents of flamenco and Andalusian root music on a privileged stage: the historic centre of the town, declared a Site of Cultural Interest and the birthplace of Blas Infante.
The programme will kick off on Friday, August 21, at 21:00 with the verdiales group Raíces de Los Moras from Almogía, who will perform a parade from the Carlos III fountain to the Marcelino Camacho square. At 22:30, the Alpujarra orchestra Balateabajo will take the stage, accompanied by a surprise guest artist, and the night will conclude at 23:30 with the Raúl Rodríguez Trio, who will explore the connections between Andalucía, Africa, and the Caribbean. They will be joined by Juanfe Pérez on bass and Jimmy González on drums.
Saturday, August 22, will be entirely dedicated to flamenco. The evening will begin at 22:30 with the Malaga singer Al-Blanco, accompanied on guitar by El Peli. At 23:20, guitarist Daniel Casares, one of the most prominent figures of the new flamenco guitar, will perform a preview of his upcoming album in Casares. The final touch will be added at midnight by dancer Rafaela Carrasco, National Dance Award 2023, with a flamenco ensemble featuring Jesús Torres on guitar and Miguel Ortega and Antonio Campos on vocals.
The poster for this edition is based on the painting 'Dream of a Fandango in Casares' by Patricio Hidalgo, a work that reflects the festival's commitment to dialogue between tradition, roots, and contemporary creation. All performances are free and will take place in the Marcelino Camacho square, a space that becomes the flamenco heart of the province for two nights.
The festival, which has already established itself as an unmissable event of the summer on the Costa del Sol, offers locals and visitors the chance to enjoy top-level flamenco in a unique setting, with the historic centre of Casares as a backdrop.
