The Town Council of Casares participated in the tribute to Blas Infante at the site where he was executed in 1936, with a floral offering and commemorative events.
The Deputy Mayor of Casares, Antonia Pineda, and councillors Alejandro García and Ana Umbría represented the municipality at the tribute to Blas Infante held at kilometre 4 of the road from Seville to Carmona, the exact point where the Father of Andalusian Homeland was executed in the early hours of 10 to 11 August 1936.
Coinciding with the 90th anniversary of his assassination, the delegation from Casares participated in the traditional floral offering and the commemorative event, which featured speeches from writer and professor Antonio Manuel, journalist Juan José Téllez, and the president of the Blas Infante Foundation, Javier Delmas.
The comparsa El Patriota also took part, having recently performed in Casares with a group dedicated to the figure of Blas Infante. The event served to reclaim the memory of one who defended a fairer, freer, and more supportive Andalusia, and to condemn his assassination.
Blas Infante was arrested at his home, kidnapped, and executed under the so-called 'War Decree', despite the fact that the ideas and activities for which he was pursued were legal at the time of his arrest. Three years after his death, Francoism issued a death sentence against him for actions that did not constitute a crime, including his participation in the 1932 elections.
This sentence remains pending declaration as illegitimate, radically null, and unjust. From Casares, his hometown, the Town Council maintains its commitment to the memory of Blas Infante and to the defence of the values of freedom, justice, and dignity that are part of his legacy.
The tribute is held every year at this site, which has become a meeting point for Andalusians who advocate for the figure of the politician and thinker born in the Málaga locality.
