The Benalmádena Town Hall has launched a provisional point for the collection of furniture and belongings, free for residents, while the new permanent Clean Point in the industrial estate is completed.
The Benalmádena Town Hall has set up a provisional point for the collection of domestic furniture and belongings, a free service for registered residents that will operate until the new permanent Clean Point in the industrial estate is finished. The initiative, driven by the departments of Cleaning and Urban Solid Waste, aims to tackle uncontrolled dumping and provide accessible alternatives for citizens.
Hours and locations of the provisional service
The provisional point will be operational from Monday to Friday, from 14:30 to 20:30, with two rotating locations. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, it will be set up at the fairgrounds of Arroyo de la Miel, while on Wednesdays it will move to the parking area at the entrance of Torremuelle. In both locations, an operator from the contracting company will supervise the service, and a Local Police video surveillance system will ensure compliance with the rules.
The Councillor for Cleaning and Urban Solid Waste, Juan Olea, explained that the aim is to "expand resources to facilitate recycling and proper waste management" while the new fixed Clean Point is completed. Olea reminded that "depositing waste outside the authorized hours or next to the containers constitutes a sanctionable offence" and that the Local Police will apply "the maximum penalties provided for by municipal ordinance" to those who violate the rules.
Complement to home collection and mobile points
This new service complements the free home collection service for furniture and belongings, implemented on January 1, which had carried out nearly 1,400 services by the end of June, 298 of which were in June alone. Additionally, the municipality has two mobile clean points that travel the streets of Benalmádena. According to Olea, "our goal is to offer more and more options to improve urban cleanliness and protect the environment."
The Town Hall has emphasized that only domestic furniture and belongings can be deposited, and it is prohibited to leave any waste outside the designated container or outside the established hours. Those who fail to comply face financial penalties. The measure aims to prevent residents from leaving items next to the containers, a practice that, according to the councillor, "is completely contrary to the ordinances."
The new Clean Point, under construction
The Town Hall continues with the construction of the new fixed Clean Point in the industrial estate, an infrastructure that will centralize the management of bulky waste and improve service to citizens. In the meantime, this provisional point meets the demand of residents, who can dispose of their old furniture in an orderly and cost-free manner. "We want to provide a useful service, but also ensure that the spaces remain clean and tidy," Olea insisted.
For the residents of Benalmádena, this initiative represents a convenient and responsible solution, especially for those who cannot wait for the home collection or prefer to take their belongings personally. However, it is important to pay attention to the schedule: if it’s Wednesday, it’s Torremuelle; on the other days, Arroyo de la Miel. And always, before half-past eight in the evening.
