Benalmádena's Local Police celebrated the feast of San Miguel Arcángel this Friday with a mass at the Virgen del Carmen parish and an institutional event at the Hotel Alay. The Police Merit Cross with orange distinction was awarded to the chief inspector of Massanassa, Javier Urbán Rubio.
The Local Police of Benalmádena celebrated this Friday the feast of their patron, San Miguel Arcángel, with a day that began with a mass at the Virgen del Carmen parish in Benalmádena Costa, followed by a solemn ceremony to present honours and distinctions at the Hotel Alay.
The mayor of Benalmádena, Juan Antonio Lara, presided over the ceremony accompanied by the territorial delegate for Employment of the Junta de Andalucía, Carmen Sánchez, and representatives of the municipal corporation, former mayors Enrique Moya and Paloma García Gálvez, the Justice of the Peace Mari Carmen Florido, the dean of the courts of Torremolinos María José Alcázar, and the chief of the Local Police, Juan Carlos Merchán, among other authorities.
The most notable recognition was awarded to the chief inspector of the Local Police of Massanassa, Javier Urbán Rubio, who received the Police Merit Cross with orange distinction for his actions during the DANA that struck the province of Valencia. The mayor recalled that twelve agents from Benalmádena were dispatched to the area to assist in the search for survivors, rescues, traffic regulation, and security tasks.
“This is an opportunity to recognise and highlight the great work our Police do,” said Juan Antonio Lara during his speech.
The ceremony also honoured Manuel Jesús Rojas Balbuena, for whom the granting of the Medal of the Order of Police Merit of Andalucía has been proposed. He has accumulated 41 years of uninterrupted service, 38 of them in the Local Police of Benalmádena, and is nearing retirement.
During the event, other actions by the agents were recognised, such as the intervention in the serious fire that occurred this summer in the municipality, the investigation that led to the identification of the alleged perpetrators of several fires on Calamorro mountain, and the joint action with nurse Cristina Murillo that saved a resident's life during a match at the Ramón Rico Sports Centre.
The day included the presentation of Police Merit crosses, individual and collective public congratulations, special mentions, recognitions for years of service, and trophies from the Patron's Shooting Exercise.
The mayor announced that the force will have seven more agents in the coming months: two who will join on a service commission and five others who are currently in the academy, with full incorporation expected next year. He also referred to the acquisition of four new 4x4 vehicles and the Cyclist Unit of Municipal Informants, which has improved service on the beaches.
