The Benalmádena Town Hall has launched a support programme for inclusion in summer sports activities, with five specific monitors for minors with educational or sports needs. Twelve families are already benefiting from this initiative.
The Benalmádena Town Hall, through the Departments of Sports and Social Welfare, has activated the new Support Programme for Inclusion and Reconciliation in Municipal Sports Activities-Summer 2026, an initiative aimed at ensuring that no minor is excluded from sports schools and camps due to requiring special support.
The programme, which started on July 10, incorporates five support monitors who work individually with children presenting specific educational or sports support needs. These professionals collaborate in inclusion within groups, assist with basic needs, accompany participants, and support behavioural and emotional management, always under the supervision of two specialized technicians from the Sports area.
Support for 12 families in three municipal facilities
Currently, 12 families are directly benefiting from this service, particularly those with minors diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or attention deficit. The programme takes place in the camps and sports schools at three key locations in the municipality: the Arroyo de la Miel Sports Centre, the Ramón Rico Sports Centre, and the Francisco Alarcón 'Isco' Municipal Stadium.
The Councillor for Sports, Alejandro Carretero, explained that this measure responds to a growing demand: more and more minors are participating in summer activities and require more personalized attention. "The Town Hall continues to work to ensure that municipal sports is an open space for everyone, where no child is excluded due to their support needs. This programme represents another step in our commitment to inclusion," he stated.
An inclusive model that is consolidating
The initiative is part of the CoResponsible Programme, promoted by the Junta de Andalucía and the Benalmádena Town Hall itself, and reinforces the council's commitment to a fully inclusive sports model. Since the beginning of the legislature, the Sports area has already had two specialized technicians coordinating adaptations, conducting educational and sports assessments, and advising monitors. Now, with the addition of five new supports, there is a qualitative leap in direct attention.
The Councillor for Social Welfare and Families, Áurea Peralta, emphasized that inclusion is not a one-off goal, but a permanent line of work. "We want municipal sports facilities to be an example of equal opportunities, where all minors can enjoy sports, learn, and interact under the same conditions," she affirmed.
For the families of Benalmádena, this programme represents a relief in balancing work and family life during the summer. Being able to leave their children in a safe environment, with professionals who understand their specific needs, allows them to face the school holidays with greater peace of mind. The Town Hall expects the number of beneficiaries to increase throughout the summer as more families learn about the service.
Interested parties can obtain more information through the Departments of Sports and Social Welfare of the Benalmádena Town Hall or inquire at the municipal sports facilities themselves. The programme will be active throughout the summer period, until the end of August.
"Inclusion is not a one-off goal, but a permanent line of work that we will continue to strengthen," insisted Áurea Peralta, making it clear that the council is not satisfied with what has been achieved.
With this measure, Benalmádena positions itself at the forefront of sports inclusion policies on the Costa del Sol, demonstrating that sports can and should be a vehicle for integration for all minors, regardless of their abilities.
