The PSOE of Málaga has contrasted the investments of the Spanish Government in Marbella, which exceed 125 million, with the lack of execution of regional projects such as the City of Justice.
The Secretary General of PSOE Málaga, Josele Aguilar, presented on Thursday the figures of state investment in Marbella and San Pedro Alcántara, which total more than 125 million euros across a dozen actions, against what he described as a "total abandonment" by the Junta of Andalucía.
Visible works versus unfulfilled promises
Aguilar, accompanied by the socialist spokesperson in Marbella, Isabel Pérez, appeared alongside the works of the New Andalucía athletics stadium to emphasise that the investments from Pedro Sánchez's Executive are "concrete, constant, and that the residents can see, touch, and enjoy." Among them, he mentioned the expansion of the Costa del Sol Hospital, the Trapiche senior residence, the acoustic screens on the A-7, and the naturalisation of the Guadaiza river.
The socialist leader detailed that the athletics stadium, with a budget close to 11.5 million euros, has a state contribution of 9.5 million (85%) from European funds. "These are the same funds that the Popular Party tried to torpedo and that now allow for necessary investments for Marbella and San Pedro," he stated.
The Junta, criticised for its inaction
In contrast to that investment volume, Aguilar denounced that none of the actions committed by the Junta of Andalucía in the area have been initiated or are budgeted. As an example, he cited the City of Justice, "a promise that is repeated year after year without any progress." PSOE will again bring the demands regarding educational centres, public housing, mobility, and judicial infrastructures to the Andalusian Parliament.
Isabel Pérez recalled that the sports complex in New Andalucía already had a track, a football field, and a swimming pool, so the action is not entirely new. Furthermore, she criticised that the project, announced in 2022 with a completion forecast in the summer of 2023, is still under construction in 2026. "Ángeles Muñoz promised an action again without knowing where she was going to get the money from, and once again, it has had to be the Government of Pedro Sánchez that provides the resources," she asserted.
Incomplete sports facilities
The socialist spokesperson also focused on the sports deficiencies of the municipality. She pointed out that the new athletics track will not be homologated for full competitions because it does not include throwing events like the javelin. "Marbella needs complete sports facilities, prepared for our athletes and capable of hosting championships," she defended.
Pérez lamented that the municipality still lacks a football stadium, an Olympic swimming pool, or a fully homologated athletics track. "The data is clear: the one investing in Marbella and San Pedro is the Government of Spain. Meanwhile, the contribution from the Junta of Andalucía is practically non-existent, and the City Council ends up taking on responsibilities that belong to the regional Government," she concluded.
The socialists have announced that they will continue to demand in the Andalusian Parliament the fulfilment of regional commitments, while the central Government maintains its investment pace in the region.
