This summer, the Serranía de Ronda faces a high risk of wildfires, according to the alert from INFOCA. With Spain surpassing 108,000 hectares burned so far this season and Andalucía at a high risk level, the Ronda region is one of the most monitored areas. The Andalusian Parliament approved Decree Law 5/2026 on April 28, which modifies emergency legislation and establishes measures for the management, prevention, and extinction of wildfires across the community.
From June 1 to October 15, making fires in the countryside is completely prohibited. This includes barbecues, burning of stubble, bonfires, and work with machinery that may generate sparks. INFOCA warns that any activity involving the handling of forest vegetation must include preventive measures. In practice, if clearing, agricultural work, or driving on forest tracks is to be done, the restrictions set according to the day's risk level must be followed.
The risk does not only affect the mountains. In urban areas, it is also recommended to keep spaces free of dry vegetation, weeds, and litter, whether on rooftops, streets, or private gardens. Additionally, it is advised to store gas cylinders and flammable items in safe storage. Prevention is key to preventing a small spark from turning into a large fire.
In the event of smoke or flames appearing, the main instruction is to call 112 immediately. Citizen coordination with emergency services is essential to prevent the fire from spreading, especially in complex areas like the Sierra de las Nieves. It is also crucial to respect the directives of the authorities, especially if an evacuation is ordered, to avoid loss of life.
With the high temperatures recorded in the Serranía, it is recommended to take extra precautions: avoid outings to the countryside during the most critical hours, respect the prohibitions, and remain vigilant. 90% of wildfires are caused by negligence or human accidents, and in some cases, by intentional actions. Awareness and compliance with regulations are the best tools to protect the natural environment and the municipalities of the region.

Keeping the surroundings of homes clean, not throwing cigarette butts or glass into the countryside, and checking agricultural machinery are simple measures that can make a difference.
