Hundreds of residents of Ronda participated in a show of support for Ceuta, where the mayor placed the flag of the autonomous city on the balcony of the Town Hall.
The Town Hall of Ronda has placed the flag of Ceuta on its main balcony as a gesture of solidarity with the autonomous city in light of the migration crisis. This was announced by the mayor, Mari Paz Fernández, during the institutional event held this Wednesday in the plaza Duquesa de Parcent, as part of the Feria and Fiestas de Pedro Romero.
The mayor stated that the flag will continue to fly at the Ronda Town Hall until Ceuta returns to normality. The municipality maintains a partnership with the autonomous city, particularly due to its ties with La Legión, which gave a special character to the gathering, organised at the request of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) in honour of Ceuta Day.
During the event, attendees chanted slogans such as 'Ceuta is not for sale, Ceuta is defended' and displayed banners and flags of Ceuta and Spain. The mayor demanded that the central government ensure the effective return of all individuals who entered the country illegally, as well as extraordinary funding for Ceuta, support for businesses and self-employed workers, and an increase in human and material resources to ensure security at the border.
“Ceuta is not alone, the people of Ceuta are not alone. When one part of Spain suffers, all of Spain responds. Protecting Spain means protecting Ceuta,” declared Fernández.
The mayor also urged the government to utilise all means from the European Union to defend the external border in Ceuta and thanked the residents who came to the square to show their support.
