A man was arrested this Tuesday after bursting into the Town Hall of Ronda and making death threats against the mayor, María Paz Fernández (PP), who was not in the building.
The Local Police of Ronda has detained a 54-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of serious threats against the city's mayor, María Paz Fernández. The arrest occurred minutes after the man arrived at the Town Hall, around 9:00 AM, and shouted for the mayor, according to municipal sources.
He burst into the Town Hall agitated and demanding to see the mayor
The individual entered the public building visibly agitated. He began to walk through the hallways of the main floor while repeating intimidating phrases against the mayor. The officials present in the area immediately alerted the Town Hall's security officers.
The local police located the suspect in the plenary hall, where he continued to make threats. He was subdued without resistance and taken to police premises for questioning. The mayor was not in the building at that time, as confirmed by the government team.

Sources from the Town Hall have indicated that the detained individual was not known to municipal social services and there were no prior complaints against him. However, an investigation is underway to determine if he suffers from any mental health issues that may have motivated his behaviour.
The Town Hall of Ronda has condemned the events and expressed its support for the mayor. In a statement, the government team emphasized that “acts of violence or intimidation against any public official will not be tolerated.” The mayor, for her part, has thanked the swift police action and assured that she will continue with her usual agenda.
The arrest comes in a context of growing concern for the safety of local politicians in the province of Málaga. In recent months, several council members have reported insults and threats on social media or during public events. The Ronda case is the first to result in an arrest in the region.
Legal consequences for the detainee
The man remains in the Local Police cells awaiting judicial proceedings. He is charged with a crime of serious threats against a public authority, punishable by prison sentences of one to five years according to Article 504 of the Penal Code, if aggravating circumstances such as recidivism or the severity of the intimidation are present.
The Málaga Prosecutor's Office will determine whether the detainee will be held in provisional custody or released with precautionary measures. Legal sources suggest that, given it is an isolated incident without physical violence, a restraining order and a prohibition on approaching the Town Hall could be considered.
The incident has generated solidarity among the mayors of the province. The president of the Málaga Provincial Council, Patricia Navarro, has condemned the threats and reminded that “public officials cannot be targets of intimidation.” The spokespeople for PSOE and Con Andalucía in Ronda have also joined in the condemnation.
Meanwhile, municipal activity has returned to normal since early afternoon. The Town Hall has increased security at the building's entrance and is considering installing additional security cameras in common areas. The mayor has resumed her agenda with a meeting scheduled for this Wednesday with neighbourhood associations.
