289 farmers in Villanueva del Trabuco will receive nearly €2.6 million in direct aid from the Government to compensate for damages caused by the storms in January and February. This was highlighted by the Secretary General of the PSOE of Málaga, Josele Aguilar, during a visit to the municipality.
The Secretary General of the PSOE of Málaga, Josele Aguilar, announced that a total of 289 farmers from Villanueva del Trabuco will receive nearly €2.6 million in direct aid from the Government of Spain. These subsidies are intended to alleviate the damages caused by the series of storms that hit the province of Málaga during January and February of this year, as reported during a visit to the municipality alongside the Andalusian parliamentarian Ana Villarejo.
The aid, the payment of which has already begun, places Villanueva del Trabuco among the municipalities in Málaga that will receive the highest amount. Aguilar emphasized that these subsidies reflect the Government's support for the agricultural sector at a particularly difficult time following the storms. "The Government of Spain stands by our farmers and ranchers, and this aid is a demonstration of that commitment," affirmed the socialist leader.
The series of storms that affected the province at the beginning of the year caused significant losses in olive, cereal, and sunflower crops, as well as in agricultural infrastructure. According to data from the Territorial Delegation of Agriculture, accumulated rainfall in some areas exceeded 200 litres per square meter in just one week, causing flooding and inundation in numerous farms. The average aid per farmer in Villanueva del Trabuco is around €9,000, although the amounts vary depending on the declared damages.
"This aid demonstrates that when the countryside faces crisis situations, administrations must respond," emphasized Josele Aguilar during his speech in the municipality. "They will help alleviate the losses suffered by hundreds of families in Villanueva del Trabuco," he added.
In addition to announcing the aid, the Secretary General of the PSOE of Málaga revealed that his group will present various initiatives related to Villanueva del Trabuco in the Andalusian Parliament. These proposals will include demands in areas such as health, education, dependency, and public services, with the aim of ensuring that the main needs of the municipality are represented in the Andalusian Chamber. "We will bring the voice of Villanueva del Trabuco to Parliament," Aguilar concluded.
For her part, the Andalusian parliamentarian Ana Villarejo congratulated the beneficiary families and highlighted the importance of supporting those who live from agriculture and livestock. She also praised the work done by the former mayor and current deputy mayor, Juan Luis Gallardo, to facilitate the arrival of this aid. Gallardo, who accompanied the socialist representatives during the visit, thanked for the support and reviewed various needs of the municipality. "I trust that joint efforts will lead to progress in solutions for Villanueva del Trabuco during the new Andalusian legislature," he stated.
Agriculture is a fundamental pillar of the economy of Villanueva del Trabuco, a municipality in the Nororma region with a population of around 5,000 inhabitants. Olive, cereal, and sunflower crops are predominant, and many small farmers depend on these subsidies to maintain their farms. The aid from the Government of Spain is part of a package of extraordinary measures approved to mitigate the effects of the storms throughout the province of Málaga, where over 3,000 farmers have been affected.
The beneficiaries in Villanueva del Trabuco can already check the status of their applications on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food. It is expected that the payment of the aid will be completed in the coming weeks, providing economic relief to families affected by the adverse weather conditions.
