Málaga's patroness has paraded on this 8th of September with four new silver lanterns, unveiled on her restored 18th-century throne.
The Virgin of Victory has traversed the streets of central Málaga this Tuesday in her glorious procession, which began at 19:30 from the Cathedral and will conclude at her sanctuary around 23:30. According to Diario Sur, the image emerged after the seasonal mass officiated by Bishop José Antonio Satué, who was making his debut at this event.
The throne of the patroness, which last year recovered a wooden gazebo from the 18th century restored by the workshop Aetos Restaura, features this year four silver lanterns designed by Juan Antonio Sánchez López, a professor of Art History at the University of Málaga, inspired by the tabernacle of the Cathedral. The pieces have been crafted by the workshop of Emilio Méndez.
The procession, accompanied by the music band Maestro Eloy García of the Archconfraternity of Expiration, performed the National Anthem and the march 'Málaga, to its Virgin of Victory', by Ginés Sánchez. The municipal band has revived this year the march 'To the Virgin of Victory', by Gabriel Robles, based on the Salve Malagueña by Father Manuel Gámez.
The procession includes institutional representations, brotherhoods, and civil, military, and religious authorities. The honorary senior brothers, City Council and Provincial Council, attend corporately. The band of cornets and drums from the Royal Firefighters Corps leads the way, with the municipal band in the middle of the procession.
The route has passed through Santa María, Molina Lario, Strachan, Marqués de Larios, Constitution Square, Granada, Calderería, Uncibay, Casapalma, Cárcer, Madre de Dios, Merced Square, Victoria, and Compás Victoria, with an expected arrival at the sanctuary around 23:30. During the journey, the image has received petals and greetings from brotherhoods such as El Rocío La Caleta, El Rico, Rescate, and Rocío de San Lázaro.
