The councillor for University, Industry, Energy and Innovation of the Junta of Andalucía, Jorge Paradela, presented on Wednesday to the rectors of the public universities in Andalucía the strategic actions that will be implemented to attract and retain talent until the year 2030. The meeting, which the rector of the University of Málaga attended virtually, marks an important step in the educational and research planning of the regional government.
Measures to boost talent in Andalucía
During the meeting, Paradela highlighted the possibility of Andalucía becoming a prominent region in southern Europe in terms of talent and knowledge. The councillor pointed out that universities are essential for transforming scientific talent into employment and prosperity. In this regard, he proposed collaboration between the public and private sectors as a key element in this process.
The proposals include reducing the gap in the average contribution base of Andalusian graduates, as well as increasing the employment rate of recent graduates. The aim is to raise the proportion of graduates with jobs in Andalucía above 76% during the first years after graduation.
Improvements in university funding
Paradela also emphasized the need to review the funding model of universities to ensure that it focuses not only on funds but also on results and objectives achieved. The Ministry aims to establish new contracts that allow for the creation of success indicators, evaluating aspects such as position in academic rankings and student performance rates.
Regarding research, an increase in the number of people dedicated to R&D per 1,000 employed is expected. To achieve this, strategies for training and retaining talent will be implemented. An increase in budgets for 2027 aimed at improving funding for the public university system was announced, which will address the current and future needs of the system.
