The Civil Guard has arrested three men in Málaga for their alleged involvement in the theft of four navigation screens from a helicopter. This helicopter is part of the Emergency Plan for Forest Fires in Andalusia (Plan INFOCA).
Details of the theft
The screens, valued at 1.2 million euros, were stolen from an aircraft based in Cártama in 2024. The owning company reported the theft of the high-tech aeronautical equipment, which initiated an investigation by the authorities.
Operation Heliplay
Following the report, the company's representatives began receiving messages demanding cash payments in exchange for the return of the screens. Civil Guard agents managed to trace the origin of these messages, linking them to two of the detainees: a former pilot in the sector and a mechanic active at the time of the events.
A third accomplice was also identified, who was responsible for hiding the stolen material. During searches carried out in Málaga and Córdoba, various computer materials, mobile terminals, and phone cards used to make contacts related to the blackmail were seized.
Finally, the material was located in Adamuz, Córdoba, where the person in possession of it was arrested. This operation has been carried out by the Heritage Area of the Organic Unit of Judicial Police of the Civil Guard Command in Málaga.
