The Junta of Andalucía has published in the Official Bulletin of the Junta of Andalucía (BOJA) three new calls for aid for 2026 aimed at the fishing and aquaculture sector. These aids, which have a total allocation of over 9.5 million euros, are co-financed by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (FEMPA).
The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, highlighted that these aids are a response to the needs of the sector and demonstrate the Junta's commitment to fishermen and companies in the aquaculture field.
Main financial support measures
The majority of the funds, over 8.5 million euros, will be allocated to compensate for temporary halts in fishing activity, benefiting both shipowners and crew members. These grants will be awarded on a non-competitive basis.
Among the aids, there is an allocation of 3.2 million euros for the Mediterranean trawler fleet, distributed as 1.7 million for shipowners and 1.5 million for crew members. Additionally, 1.5 million will be allocated to the purse seine fleet in the Gulf of Cádiz and 1.6 million for the trawler fleet in that fishing ground.
Furthermore, over 1.3 million euros will be assigned to the small-scale shellfish fleet using traps for octopus capture along the Mediterranean coast and 950,000 euros for the small-scale fleet in the Gulf of Cádiz.
Initiatives for sustainability and aquaculture
Moreover, 755,000 euros have been allocated for investments in equipment and actions on board fishing vessels based in Andalucía, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of fishing activities. This funding will be distributed as 155,000 euros for 2026 and 600,000 euros for 2027.
Additionally, 225,000 euros are being called to support interventions that promote environmental services in aquaculture. These aids are intended to compensate for lost profits resulting from the use of farming methods that align with specific environmental needs, especially in areas of the Natura 2000 Network.
Fernández-Pacheco emphasized the importance of ensuring that initiatives for the protection of fishing resources go hand in hand with the economic and social development of the sector, thus ensuring the well-being of families that depend on this activity.
