Málaga City Council has ordered maintenance companies to intensify the monitoring of large trees. The measure aims to reduce the risk of falling branches and trees across the 11 districts.
The Málaga City Council has communicated to the companies awarded the service for the conservation of green areas and street trees the order to intensify urban tree control, with special attention to those specimens that due to their size, shape, or location may pose a greater risk of branch or tree falls.
The actions include pruning to reduce the canopy of large trees or even replacement when necessary. The goal is to minimize risks for pedestrians and traffic in the city.
According to data provided by the council, the maintenance service has carried out more than 31,000 actions so far this year across the 11 districts of the capital. Among them are 1,133 tree removals that are replaced with more suitable ones for their environment.
Additionally, annual planting campaigns have allowed the incorporation of 9,684 new trees in the last seven years, highlighting the effort to renew and expand Málaga's urban tree cover.
