Programs for Emotional Wellbeing in Málaga
On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, celebrated on October 10, the Junta de Andalucía has announced the launch of several programs aimed at improving the emotional wellbeing of students in Málaga.
The Ministry of Education has developed the initiative titled ‘Let’s Talk About Emotions’, which aims to provide adolescents with tools to manage their emotions and face risky situations. The program will be implemented in 300 public-funded educational centres during this school year.
Educational Interventions
The program is aimed at students in Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), Baccalaureate, and Vocational Training. Its goal is to help young people develop self-esteem and the emotional skills necessary to face the challenges of this crucial stage in their lives.
‘Let’s Talk About Emotions’ integrates two types of intervention: universal prevention for all students and selective attention for those who require specific emotional support. Educational centres will receive support from professionals in the educational and health fields to implement these initiatives.
Additionally, the ‘Emotional Wellbeing’ program has been launched, which seeks to improve the health and emotional wellbeing of students and teachers in public and private institutions. This program will include training for counsellors to help develop emotional skills in students and detect signs of psychosocial problems.
The Ministry of Education has also encouraged schools to carry out awareness-raising activities around mental health on October 10, in order to raise awareness and reduce the stigma associated with these issues. These activities will be tailored to the age and maturity of young people and will promote collaboration among families and the educational community.
