The works for the extension of the Málaga Metro will start to affect traffic on Blas de Lezo street from next Tuesday, October 13. This section extends from the intersection with Valverde street to Arroyo de los Ángeles avenue, where the Civil and Maternal-Child Hospitals are located.
The road will be closed to traffic, except for access to the underground car park. This construction phase already occupies 60% of the route of the third section, which includes the future Hospital Civil station, requiring the closure of Simón Bolívar avenue.
Changes in traffic and public transport
During the execution of the works, changes will be made to traffic management and temporary modifications to the routes of bus lines 15 and 18 of the Municipal Transport Company (EMT). Between October 13 and January 2027, a provisional lane will be enabled for exclusive access to the underground car parks of Blas de Lezo.
The new traffic arrangement will also affect adjacent streets, such as Pasaje Niceto Ramírez, Bresca, Sebastián de Eslava, Tejares, Segismundo Moret, and Nicolás Salmerón, which will become dead ends. Conditions for entry and exit will be facilitated by the same lane in the affected roads, with appropriate signage for safe manoeuvres.
Measures to maintain accessibility and services
The Department of Development and Mobility assures that pedestrian routes and accessibility to nearby buildings will be maintained during the development of the works. Additionally, the groups of containers within the area affected by the works will be relocated to nearby locations to ensure the collection service of urban solid waste and facilitate access for residents.
The third section of the extension of the Málaga Metro is 510 meters long and extends from the intersection of Blas de Lezo and Martínez de la Rosa streets to Simón Bolívar avenue. This project includes the construction of the new Hospital Civil station and benefits from co-financing from the 2021-2027 Feder Operational Programme.
